Our story
A kitchen table, carried across the Atlantic
Lucia Rinaldi learned to shape orecchiette with her thumb in a whitewashed kitchen outside Bari, in the heel of Italy's boot. She never wrote a recipe down. She taught by saying "until it feels right" and by standing over your shoulder.
Her grandson, chef Marco Rinaldi, spent those summers at her table before cooking his way through kitchens in Lecce, Milan and Manhattan. In 2011 he opened Osteria Lucia in Carroll Gardens, sixteen tables, one pasta board, and the recipes he could remember by taste.
Today we still roll pasta every morning, simmer the ragù for six hours on Sundays, and buy olive oil, burrata and Primitivo from small producers in Puglia. Come hungry. We will not let you leave otherwise.
